IBM Smart Software Symposium

The IBM Smart Software Symposium was held in Cape Town this week and Maxxor attended both days of the event.
Attending the event were IT Managers; Software Developers; Software Specialists; Sales People; Project Managers; Analysts; Other IT ; Other Specialists; Engineers; Architects; Developers; Strategists; other software and Business Partners.
The event was held at Lagoon Beach Hotel and the weather was amazing, too amazing to be indoors, however the speakers kept us entertained and educated.
Topics such as an overview of the South African Software Market as well as how acquisitions impact the Public, Private and Financial Sectors were discussed. Of course we were there to see if they had any interesting new products for the SMME market and they do, which we are looking into at the moment.
Post day ones event, we played Survivor IBM style, which included all sorts of IBM-related questions as well as South African-based questions and I teamed up with Dennis from the City of Cape Town. We were split up after round two, where the questions became more technical around their products such as Information management and WebSphere.
Dennis made it into the finals and won a Nintendo Wii, which to my delight, he passed on to me.
Thanks Dennis, my team at the office is begging me to bring it in, which am thinking about, but I may keep it at home for a while.
So, Software Summits can serve both purposes, i.e. information and networking, as well as a Wii fans delight.
Thank you to IBM for an informative two days and bigger thank you to Dennis of the City of Cape Town.
